Even when I was a kid I thought this was retarded.
%99 percent of Japanese boxart was raped during those days, as they thought that Japanese art wouldn’t appeal to Americans. And that was if the game was lucky and didn’t get it’s content raped, like replacing characters and graphics.
There are still some modern examples of this happening, such as the Ico box art, and almost any Bust a Move game.
